Join us for an evening with Marie-Louise Ekman, a defining force in Swedish culture. With a practice spanning painting, sculpture, film, and theatre, Ekman has shaped the visual landscape of Sweden for more than six decades.
Beyond her artistic work, she has been a central part of cultural leadership in Sweden as Director of Dramaten and Principal of the Royal Institute of Art, leaving a lasting impact on how art is created, taught, and experienced in Sweden.
In this Firestorm Talk, we’ll explore her creative world, her thoughts on leadership, and her position as an influential woman and artist in the cultural sector.
Testamentet - the art classroom created by Marie-Louise Ekman is open after the talk. It was inaugurated in the fall of 2023 and contains parts of the artist's own studio, as well as several new original works. "It resembles nothing else and it is a privilege for our students to be able to experience something so unique", says SSE President Lars Strannegård.
Firestorm talks is a series of talks exploring the visibility and value of women artists, both in society and the art market.
Firestorm Foundation is a non-profit initiative founded by Cristina Ljungberg in 2021, dedicated to highlighting female and nonbinary artists for a more inclusive art world. Beginning in 2025, the Foundation will fund initiatives at SSE to advance knowledge and promote equality for female and nonbinary artists, including seminars, Master’s thesis scholarships, and donations to the SSE Permanent Collection.
