2Welcome to the Brown Bag Seminar in Economics organized by the Department of Economics, SSE. The seminar speaker is Marcus Hagman, SSE who will present "Private Equity Buyouts, Productivity, and Buyer Specialization"
We study the impact of buyer industry specialization on the effect of private equity buyouts on the productivity of target firms. We find that while most buyouts do not improve productivity in targets, buyouts where the buyer specializes in the industry of the target firm improve productivity by 8% on average. Moreover, buyer specialization does not cause markups to rise following a buyout. Our results are consistent with the notion that buyers have industry specific intangible capital which they are able to transfer to target firms.
Marcus Hagman is a PhD student at SSE, in the Department of Economics.
This seminar takes place at Stockholm School of Economics, Sveavägen 65, in room A542.
