Klara Palmberg Broryd appointed affiliated researcher at the Center for Security and Resilience

The Stockholm School of Economics Center for Security and Resilience (CfSR) has appointed Klara Palmberg Broryd as an affiliated researcher. With senior leadership experience in the public sector and a research focus on complexity, she will contribute to strengthening Sweden's total defense.

Russia’s war in Ukraine has highlighted the need for strong and resilient societies built on close cooperation between public and private organizations. Building Sweden's total defense requires leaders who can not only drive development within their own organizations but also find new ways to collaborate - and to do so at speed.

Klara Palmberg Broryd brings valuable experience to the Center. She has served as Head of the Department for State-Owned Enterprises at the Swedish Government Offices and as Director of Strategy and Innovation in Nacka Municipality. In 2009, she earned her PhD with a dissertation on organizations as complex adaptive systems. Since then, she has developed both theory and practice on how to navigate and drive change in complex environments. She is also the author of the book Komplexitet - enklare navigerat, bättre hanterat ("Complexity - easier to navigate, better managed").

– I want to contribute to building strong societal systems through collaboration between public and private organizations, says Klara Palmberg Broryd. My experience is that joint action in new situations can drive innovation, both when solving urgent challenges and when developing broader long-term capabilities.

Managing complexity - a key to resilience

The Center for Security and Resilience (CfSR) was founded to address today's complex security challenges. It serves as a neutral arena for developing solutions before, during and after crises. Key focus areas include cybersecurity, procurement, innovation, public-private partnerships, and management of critical infrastructure.

Appointing affiliated researchers is part of the Center's mission to create a dynamic environment where knowledge and practical experience can be shared.

Professor Martin Carlsson-Wall, Research Director of CfSR, sees strong potential in the appointment:

– With Klara Palmberg Broryd's senior leadership experience at both the Government Offices of Sweden and Nacka Municipality, we are very pleased to welcome her. Her research and practical expertise in developing complex systems are highly valuable for our mission to support the continued development of Sweden's total defense.
