FAQ - PhD Student Position at CWWH
What kind of research projects am I expected to work on?
CWWH hosts several ongoing research projects (some listed on our homepage) to which we hope you will contribute. Since our work is collaborative, you do not need fully defined research questions at the start; having a few initial ideas is sufficient.
Can I work with qualitative methods at the CWWH?
At the moment, we are only looking for candidates who are interested in quantitative research methods and motivated to develop strong skills in data analysis and statistical modeling.
How long is the program?
The program takes four to five years to complete, depending on whether you also work as a teaching assistant during your studies.
I do not have a background in Business and Economics. Do I still need to have 90 ECTS in Business Administration?
Exceptions to this requirement are possible. Happiness research is highly interdisciplinary, and we place great value on having researchers with diverse academic backgrounds.
I do not live in Stockholm. Can I conduct my studies online?
No. Our PhD program is fully residential, and all students are required to live in the greater Stockholm area.
How important is it to take the GMAT or GRE?
While neither test is formally required, we strongly recommend that applicants take one of them. No minimum scores are required.
Are there any scholarships?
Yes. All PhD students receive guaranteed funding throughout the program. Currently, the monthly tax-free stipend for newly enrolled PhDs is 26 000 SEK.
How do I mark my interest in CWWH in my SSE PhD application?
If you’d like to apply to projects within CWWH, you need to submit an application to the PhD Program in Business Administration. In the application form, you’ll find an option to select your preferred specialization. There, choose the Department of Management and Organization. This will allow you to indicate your interest in a focus area within the department. “Wellbeing, Welfare and Happiness” is the focus area that covers the research conducted by CWWH.
