How do we get more women into leadership positions in sports – and what does truly equitable sponsorship look like?

Today, over 200 stakeholders from sports, municipalities, and the business sector gathered in Gothenburg for RF-SISU Västra Götaland’s gender equality conference.

Fanny Almersson, PhD student at the Center for Sports and Business, and Executive Director Anna Laurell Nash took part in two panels each – exploring gender-equal sponsorship and female leadership in sports.
We discussed questions like:

👉 Why should a girl invest in a sport that won’t invest in her?
👉 What does gender-equal sponsorship really mean – and what value does it create?

Interest in women’s sports is growing rapidly – in audience numbers, commercial value, and media coverage. Companies that see women’s sports as an opportunity, not charity, often gain stronger engagement – externally and internally.

The way forward demands transparency, knowledge, and the courage to challenge old structures.
