New launch of Center for Transformative Innovation, Constantin Blome appointed director

Transforming industries and supply chains towards sustainability and carbon neutrality – that is the mission of Professor Constantin Blome, newly appointed Chair in Transformative Innovation at the Stockholm School of Economics. In his new role, he will build and lead the Center for Transformative Innovation.

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) has appointed Professor Constantin Blome as holder of the Chair in Transformative Innovation at the Department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology. The decision follows the recommendation of the Faculty and Program Board and the School’s Board of Directors. 

The new chair and center will strengthen SSE’s research and teaching in innovation that transforms industries and supports sustainable business transitions. The Chair will be based at the House of Innovation and will serve as a hub for research on how firms can innovate to thrive in times of change – particularly through the transformation of supply chains to carbon neutrality. Professor Blome will be joined by a team of post doctoral and PhD researchers.

Helping businesses adapt to change

“Transformative innovation is about helping businesses adapt to a changing world – becoming not only more efficient but also more sustainable and resilient,” says Professor Blome. “At the House of Innovation, we will study how transformative innovations that require multi-actor collaborations with coordinated large-scale investments, complex knowledge (re)combination, and changes in societal structures.” Strong focus will be placed on pursuing basic and applied research, leading to corporate strategies but also policies that help addressing societal grand challenges.

Professor Blome brings extensive international experience to SSE. Before joining, he held professorships in the UK, Belgium and Germany, and has collaborated widely with universities and businesses around the world, including in the United States, Canada and India. His research spans sustainable supply chain management, supply chain risk and resilience, and innovation in global sourcing. He also has extensive experience from executive education and industry engagement.

Professor Blome aims to explore how sustainability and digitalization can jointly drive change. This includes topics such as circular economy models, net-zero supply chains, and how firms can prepare for geopolitical disruptions.
