SSE students win silver at the Nordic Championship in Business and Economics

This October, three Retail Management students from the Stockholm School of Economics – Emilio Martinez, Wiktor Granat and Axel Thor – represented SSE at the Nordic Championship in Business and Economics (NCBE) in Helsinki, Finland, where they achieved an impressive second place.

The competition brought together top student teams from Sweden, Norway and Finland to tackle challenging analytical cases and problem-solving tasks under high pressure. The SSE team’s journey began in March 2025, when they won the SSE internal qualifiers. From there, they advanced to the Swedish Championship in Economics (SM) in Visby in May, where they placed among the top three teams in Sweden, earning their spot at the Nordic final.

At the NCBE, the students competed in both a written exam and a case challenge designed by leading organizations such as EY, UNICEF, and Halide Energy. Representing SSE, the team worked on a case from UNICEF, developing strategic recommendations for the organization’s EdTech initiatives and future financing. Their analysis received high praise from the judges, securing the team the highest combined score in both the written and case rounds, and ultimately, after a final quiz on stage, earning them the silver medal.

“It's been a long and rewarding journey – from the first qualifier to standing on stage in Helsinki,” says Wiktor Granat, the team leader. “We’ve learned so much about teamwork, problem-solving and applying our knowledge under real pressure.”

Warm congratulations to Emilio, Wiktor and Axel for their outstanding achievement, and to the champions – Jacob Tømmerås, Eivind Nejad-Trondsen and Oskar Evan Mawdsley from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) – for taking home the gold.

Applications for the championships open around April every year and are organized via the .
