Sara Öhrvall has joined the House of Innovation (HoI) at SSE as its new Practitioner in Residence. She brings a wealth of experience from senior executive and advisory roles focused on driving technology-led transformation. Her experience and insights will greatly benefit the research and innovation environment at HoI, its scholars, and students at SSE.
The Practitioner in Residence initiative is designed to strengthen the knowledge exchange between academic research and practical experience. Stefan Krook, founder of Kivra, joined the initiative last year.
“I am delighted to be part of, and contribute to, this dynamic and exciting environment, including the top-ten-ranked incubator SSE Business Lab and SSE Ventures, a group of excellent scholars conducting highly relevant research, and SSE’s brilliant students,” säger Sara Öhrvall.
With previous roles ranging from Chief Operating Officer at Axel Johnson to Chief Digital Officer at SEB and Senior Vice President of Research & Development at Bonnier, Öhrvall has led digital and strategic initiatives for some of Sweden’s most influential companies. She is currently a Board Director of Investor AB, Axfood, Verisure, Bonnier Books, Dagens Nyheter and SNS. She is also the Chair of SSE Ventures and serves as Vice Chair of the Supervisory Board of Ahlström OY, alongside work on the International Advisory Board of the Stockholm Resilience Center.
Her international background – including work experience from Tokyo, London, Singapore, Brussels and San Francisco – brings a global perspective that complements the House of Innovation’s ambition to create impact beyond Sweden.
A stronger bridge between research and practice
At the House of Innovation, Öhrvall will engage with researchers on projects related to digital transformation, innovation management and organizational change. She will take part in teaching students and meeting and early-stage founders to share practical perspectives on leadership, strategy and technology.
“We already know Sara from her excellent work as Chair of our investment fund, SSE Ventures, and are delighted to now welcome her in this new role and to have to opportunity to benefit from her insights and experience. Close interaction with thought leaders and business leaders such as Sara is a hallmark of SSE. With this new initiative, we are adding new life to this important tradition,” says Magnus Mähring, Erling Persson Chair and Director of the House of Innovation.
By welcoming Öhrvall as Practitioner in Residence, the Stockholm School of Economics continues to strengthen its commitment to connecting research with practice.
