Mistra and the Kamprad Family Foundation invest millions in Misum to advance sustainability research at SSE
Over the past decade, Misum, with support from Mistra, has established itself as a leading research center focused on sustainability, working with and for society’s stakeholders. The work is now taking a major step forward through a joint initiative from Mistra and the Kamprad Family Foundation. The investment will allow the center to evolve into a larger and more long-term research hub – the House of Sustainable Society (HoSS). Here, research, practice, and policy will come together and connect to international collaborations. Of the SEK 80 million, Mistra is contributing SEK 50 million and the Kamprad Family Foundation SEK 30 million, over the next five years.
Misum is already a strong center focused on practice-relevant sustainability research in areas such as economics, finance, accounting, and business model & innovation. With the establishment of the House of Sustainable Society (HoSS), the connection between academia and society is further strengthened, ensuring that research becomes useful in practice and contributes to real change for a more sustainable society. At the heart of HoSS is the creation of the Misum Impact Lab, a new platform where researchers will co-create solutions together with businesses, policymakers, and civil society. The Lab will serve as a bridge between knowledge and action, ensuring that research leads to tangible environmental and societal benefits. Misum will also deepen its international collaborations, including a planned center-to-center partnership with other international centers in Europe, strengthening Sweden’s position in the global sustainability research landscape. Misum’s ambition is not only to generate knowledge, but to make that knowledge matter, to help society navigate the transition toward environmental, social, and economic sustainability. By combining scientific rigor with practical collaboration, Misum aims to position itself as one of Europe’s leading sustainability research centers.
“We are incredibly grateful for the collaboration with our two funders, Mistra and the Kamprad Family Foundation. Their support allows us to further strengthen our research into sustainable solutions for society. At a time when sustainability efforts are being questioned from several directions, it is more important than ever to stand by research, scientific evidence, and science-based knowledge. We look forward to continued development, expanding our sustainability research, and contributing innovative solutions to society,” says Martina Björkman Nyqvist, Executive Director of Misum.
